The newly remodeled Museumplein is a wonderful addition to the outdoor venues of Amsterdam. This wide open grassy field is surrounded by such famous buildings as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum, the Stedlijk musuem, a really trippy Albert Heijn supermarket with an arched roof that makes a great picnic area/overview of the area, the Concertgebouw, the U.S. Embassy and some beautiful old houses.

Some of the main events in Amsterdam now take place here, since this can accomodate huge crowds of people. The Queens Day celebration featured numerous live acts, Slava!, a symphony performance with Mistlav Rostropovich, and soon the Uitmarkt will all take advantage of this excellent venue.

The Museumplein is also a great place to picnic, play football or frisbee, catch a few winks, or just stroll around and absorb the ambiance. I must say this is now one of my favorite places to hang out on nice days.
