The National Theater is the prime venue in Prague for opera, ballet and dramatic productions. Opened in 1881, the building dominates the waterfront next to the Vltava River. Check their website for the complete schedule of events.
Posted by Thomas Dement on 2004-01-12 05:30:13 My Score: I saw "The Bartered Bride" (Smetana) in the National Theater in December 2003. The production was outstanding and was the highlight of my visit to Prague. The golden glow of the great hall provides a marvellous backdrop to the stage. What a delight to see one of the great pieces of Czech culture so well presented in its true home. And the best seats in the house can be obtained over the Internet at prices which (by American standards) are incredibly cheap.
During the same visit, I also saw "Carmen" and "The Nutcracker" in the National Theater. Both were equally well done and very satisfying.
