On the beach in Calpe, the 'La Fosa' beach, or the North Beach as we call it. With great views of the sea, this restaurant offers fine food at reasonable prices, with great service.
The extensive menu offers a variety of local fish, roasted and grilled meats, roasted chicken, salads and seafood soups. Paella is a feature here, with fresh seafood from the port nearby.
My amigo and I enjoyed the menu del dia there today, and I wanted to write it up before my memories fade further. I chose the ensalada mixta for my starter, and it was a great salad with nothing but fresh stuff in it, remarkable for being the middle of winter in Spain. My friend had the tomato with gambas, a hollowed tomato stuffed with shrimp salad.
The main course we both chose, was the pollo asado. We had fond memories of Spanish-style roasted chicken from a previous winter in San Pedro de Alcantara, and were not disappointed here. The chicken was quite large, with lots of meat, cooked nicely without being greasy or over-done. The plate was adorned with a pile of fried potatoes and a smaller pile of nicely steamed string green beans. Accompanying this was the house 'vino tinto,' an excellent choice.
Instead of partaking of their postre, or dessert; we chose to have cafe con leche, to keep us awake for the after-lunch walk down the beach.
La quenta came to only 20.87 for two, including tax, drinks and the menus. Our waiter received a nice tip for serving us so expertly. This is one restaurant in Calpe that offers service with an expert attitude, and perhaps a smile as well. We certainly enjoyed our visit to Restaurant La Marina I.
The restaurant features another location on the Playa del Bol, or south beach, in Calpe.
