Hip Guide to Philippines

Manila is the capital of The Philippines, an Asian nation consisting of over 7,000 islands in the westerna Pacific ocean. Ferdinand Magellan arrived in 1521 and soon the islands became a Spanish colony, remaining so until the early 1898 when the United States bought the islands for $20 million. After WWII the Philippines achieved independence and was ruled with an iron fist by Ferdinand Marcos until 1983 when he and his legendary wife Imelda were expelled and a democratic government emerged. The Philippine islands are a place of great natural beauty and make a wonderful traveling destination.
