  4. Greetings!

I plan to live in Yellow Springs in January. The rent prices seem reasonable, thanks for warning me about ever buying property in YS.

Do you know someone who has a place availbale for one month?

    How is the economy?

I am testing the waters, and wish to eventually move there full time.

    Thanks,
    Jerome

  5. I went to Antioch for a little over a year, so I lived in Yellow Springs during that time. I will tell you the things that you need to know. First, know that it is a small town, there are a few streets that are the downtown and that is all. Second, know that you are in Ohio, and that YS is the ONLY place that you will want to be. What I’m trying to say is that you’re at least a couple of states away from an acceptable change of scenery. But it is a cool place, don’t get me wrong. There are a lot of great people there. But it is also like a bubble. The bottom line is that there are better places, but it all depends on what you’re looking for, it was too small for me, but it might fit you just fine!

  6. I go to college near yellow springs and have to drive down there every once and a while because there is no place like it in the world. Its so chill. Import House is a great head shop. Lots of cool stores and people, nature. Dave Chappelle lives there. a great place to get away or live. Old Trail Tavern for great food and atmosphere. peace out all.

  7. Hi all. I have lived around Springfield all my life and have, therefore, been coming to Yellow Springs for most of it. I truly hope and pray that tourism and money doesn’t ruin this very, very special place. To me, it’s like going back in time. I have hiked just about every square inch of John Bryan, Glen Helen, and The Gorge. Heck, my grandfather was even a boyscout leader at Camp Birch when I was a little kid. I love to visit the downtown shops and The Tavern, don’t get me wrong, but I think I have more fun scouting out yard-sales on the side streets or finding a game of frisbee or hacky-sack or just talking to the people I meet there. I am 38 years old now and whenever something is weighing heavily on my mind, I still throw on my boots and head for The Gorge, John Bryan and Glen Helen. I go early, so there are less people and walk in the quiet and listen to everything around me. The river, the woods, the animals that live there. Amazing how my ‘problem’ will always be worked out when I leave. That’s what Yellow Springs is to me. I hope that anyone who visits your remarkable town gets to see this side of it first and foremost. Everything else is just a fringe benefit. Take care, all, peace out.

  9. how was that last posting relevant to yellow springs at all, this is a wonderful place where non-conformists join with one thing in common, to perserve the community and the diversity they worked so hard to acheive. we do not want more tourists in imposter tie-die shirts than locals, i live here and i think if you want to come to the village you should have a real opinion on the town and what you stand for….think about it are you worthy?

  10. Yellow Springs remains a bastian of hope for small town life. It is possible for a liberal minded town to thrive despite the conservative wave taking over everywhere. For many of us who do not live there, it remains a symbol, not to the past, but to the future. Yellow Springs is much larger than it looks.

  11. What’s not to love about Yellow Springs. However, I do get the impression that the locals are standoffish to people visiting and can be a tad bit arrogant. To the comment about people putting on Tye Dye shirts and visiting YS, the YS lifestyle is a state of mind and shouldn’t be about image. I could visit YS in a suit and still have the mind set and same appreciations as those who live there. My advice, don’t try so hard. I grew up in the 60s/70s and realize it’s how you appreciate and what you love. Some of those living there take the image thing to the extreme. Love thy neighbor!

  12. alright, i live in cincinnati ohio, and i was wondering about the people in yellowsprings. The past month or so, people have been telling me that i belong in yellow springs. sounds like a groovy place, but i am not sure if i’ll be accepted…so, what do you think? is it a really cool place to live in?

  13. I don’t know for sure if dave chappelle resides here in yellow springs, but he just spent a bunch to acquire a parcel of land just outside of town.

  15. I’m a 1972 graduate of Antioch. I try to make it back as often as I can. I am proud of the school and image it projects. Throughout history people will try to lay claims of stopping the viet nam slaughter , but deep down inside we know who stopped it !!! POWER TO THE PEOPLE They knew we had the numbers and suddenly it ended .

  16. Yellow Springs….Although not a resident myself, for I live in the neighboring city of Xenia, I feel as if it were my home. Why? Because it is where my heart is. Corny as that may sound, it still rings true today. My husband and I enjoy walking the streets & trails. My aunt actually used to live above Ye Olde Trail Tavern, which as a kid I thought was pretty cool. All in all, I love Yellow Springs, and definately recommend it to anyone with a day off, to escape the “norm”. Enjoy.

  17. Hi, I am from Bethel, Ohio and live in Chicago where I started a nonprofit for youth and peace. I am driving home today for my family reunion and will also go to Yellow Springs. Clear Channel has given me a venue in Chicago (Northerly Park) to produce Music4Miracles and I am trying to find Dave Chappelle to MC the event where children and musicians and comedians can bring light to the world right now. Anyone with any info n how I mgith get to Dave to invite him, please email me at sponsorkids@aol.com or call my office at 312-560-0053. I am also trying his publicist today in Los Angeles, but since I am going down that way, I thought I would try here as well. Thanks and PEACE

  18. Hey,
I’m from ann arbor MI and am used to the chill. How is YS when it comes to the “GREEN” =wink wink= crowd. Hemp friendly? Cops o plenty? what is the general vibe??
    Thanks

  20. i’ve heard told that yellow springs has a GREAT festival up-n-commin’. is this true or just a ruse to get me outta da house?! if true then when and where? we’d be commin in from west’ByGod’virginia and don’t wanna waste any gas!

  21. I grew up in Yellow Springs, graduated from HS there and still have relatives there. I come back home as often as I can…YS will always be home and one of the nicest places to live…and yes Dave Chappelle can be found on the streets of YS at any given time. YS has had quite a few “celebrities” that have connections to this town and its there best quiet secrets! You just never know who you might meet!

  22. I’ve lived in this area most of my life;living in different parts of the country, but always returning to my roots. One of my fondest memories of YS and the gorge is the first time I went there- ’64 or so- I was just a kid then. My mom (white) was deeply involved with a wonderful (black) man, and they took us all to a picnic at the gorge, and then just kinda walking thru town. It was the first time that I can remember that we weren’t stared at-in either curiosity or scorn. In Dayton (our home town), he had been pulled over several times by the cops when one of us was in the car with him without our mom. The times have changed, but I still enjoy going there for the shopping, the relaxed environment, but more importantly for the spiritual resources I find there. Besides, on the shopping front, while there are lots of items that are unique to YS, many more can be found on the ‘net or much closer to my home.
    Namaste’
